C8 Corvette Sales Continue To SufferOnce a darling of the auto industry, the C8 Corvette has recently been struggling to sell as shoppers has passed it up. That revelation will be shocking to anyone who hasn’t been paying attention, but we’ve seen C8 Corvettes piling up as sales slow for a while now, and the situation doesn’t seem to be getting any better.
GM does a big pivot away from EVs and toward gas-powered trucks, SUVs.
According to GM sales data for the first half of 2025, overall sales are up 12 percent, with Q2 showing a 7 percent increase. But when it comes to the Corvette, it’s the stinker in the company with a 29.7 percent decrease in sales for the first half of the year.
Even worse, for the second quarter of 2025, Corvette sales imploded 37.9 percent with only 9,338 sold. That’s even worse than the horrible Q1 numbers we covered back in April. In other words, it seems the problem is accelerating in the wrong direction.
Most people are focusing on the new C8 Corvette ZR1 and ZR1X. While the supercar and hypercar certainly are impressive, with demand for the ZR1 outstripping the limited supply, those aren’t going to float the boat alone.
What’s curious about the situation is how C8 Z06 Corvettes are selling in lower numbers than Stingrays at the moment. One might think people have grown tired of the older C8 models, leading to higher demand for more recent offerings, but that isn’t the case.
It seems the biggest thing GM has done to help spur Corvette sales is roll out a refreshed interior. Will that do the trick? It’s too early to say for sure, but we’re skeptical it’s the magic bullet the automaker needs.
There’s a lot of debate about why the C8 Corvette has become a stinker. Some think it’s just market fatigue, others argue it’s inflation, and some believe the decision to move the American sports car more upmarket is finally starting to backfire.
