Gears of War: Reloaded has hit one million players following its multi-platform launch on August 26. Apart from PC and Xbox Series X/S, Gears of War: Reloaded also rolled out on PS5, bidding farewell to the highly popular franchise's Xbox console exclusivity and marking the beginning of a new era.

First unveiled in May 2025, Gears of War: Reloaded is a third-person cover shooter game and the remaster of the original Gears of War title from 2006. It is yet another repackaging of the first game, which was previously revamped as part of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition in 2015. In the few days since hitting the shelves, the Marcus Fenix-centered title has received considerable critical success, accumulating an average OpenCritic score of 81 based on 52 reviews at the time of writing. Most recently, the Gears of War devs also confirmed that the game's player-base growth was also on the rise.
Gears of War: Reloaded Races Past 1 Million Players in 3 Days
The official Gears of War franchise handle on Twitter revealed that over one million users had played Gears of War: Reloaded. This announcement came within three days of the arrival of the 2006 original's latest makeover for current-gen platforms. Apparently, this number took into account its players across consoles, PC, and Xbox Game Pass, where it came out as a day-one title. Moreover, the latest injection of player interest in the IP comes in the build-up to the future release of its first mainline game since Gears 5 in 2019, titled Gears of War E-Day.
For a game that has been remastered twice, Gears of War: Reloaded reaching a million players in a short period suggests that the original game's appeal may still be strong even after almost two decades. Given this launch marks the series' debut on PlayStation, an overwhelming chunk of this player-base could very well be PS5 users checking out the Xbox-owned series for the first time. At the same time, Game Pass subscribers could also be making up a significant percentage of Gears of War: Reloaded's players, given that the shooter has been available for free since launch day as part of the membership's benefits.

Following Gears of War: Reloaded's release on PS5, rumors have been heating up about more Gears of War titles coming to Xbox's rival platform in the future. From the franchise's Xbox 360-era trilogy to the upcoming mainline title, there is growing speculation about more Gears of War entries eventually landing on PlayStation.
