Lando Norris Says He Doesn’t Care About His Legacy

McLaren Formula One driver Lando Norris says he doesn’t think about leaving a legacy behind for some rather interesting reasons. People seem to have a lot to say about the statements he made on the subject recently, both praising and jeering the man.

Formula One has a new race team.

But Norris claims “there’s not excitement” to dwell on his potential legacy in a recent interview with Rolling Stone. Instead, he says he wants “people to know the kind of person (he) was, rather than anything else.”

Isn’t that a legacy of types? One could easily argue it is.

Maybe philosophy isn’t the racer’s strong suit, but he has strong feelings about motorsports legacies, even in F1. He claims in that interview that with being held up as one of the best drivers ever, “everyone forgets” eventually.

That’s right, people will eventually forget Senna, Schumacher, Alonso, Prost, Lauda, Stewart, Vettel, and Hamilton eventually, like maybe in a few hundred years.

But some could interpret Norris’ comments as a type of veiled attack on Lewis Hamilton. After all, with his lackluster performance for the past two seasons or so, some might argue his legacy has been tarnished.

Of course, Norris could easily deny that’s what he’s referencing. In the Rolling Stone article, it goes on and on about what a nice guy Norris is. He even opens some Care Bear charm thing at the beginning of the article, which honestly is weird for a grown man to entertain, unless he’s catering to his young daughter.

If we were more cynical, we’d say perhaps Lando Norris wants to downplay the importance of a legacy because he’s come to grips with the fact he won’t have one. But at least he was a nice guy on the circuits, so there’s something.
