SpaceX NASA Crew-11 launch from Kennedy Space Center scrubbed due to weather

With a minute to go on the countdown clock, the launch of NASA’s Crew-11 scrubbed for the day — and not for the reason expected.

NASA's Crew-11 was set to launch to the International Space Station atop a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from NASA's Kennedy Space Center Pad 39A on July 31. Prior to launch, weather in the "ascent corridor" was a watch a item, while the weather at KSC was clear.

Shortly before launch, though, a storm cell popped up just north of the launch pad. At first, SpaceX thought the new weather would not reach the launch pad before the 12:09 p.m. liftoff time, yet the storm cloud managed to settle right over the pad with just over a minute to go.

NASA and SpaceX will attempt the launch again at 11:43 a.m. Friday, August 1. Weather at the launch site is forecasted to be 85% favorable for the attempt, however, ascent corridor weather remains a watch item for the upcoming few days. The ascent corridor, or path the rocket travel, must be clear in case of an abort scenario.
