The newly reimagined Test Track 3.0 opens July 22, 2025, with a fresh storyline, sleek ride vehicles, and nods to EPCOT's transportation-themed past.

Guests can expect an upgraded queue focused on the history and future of mobility, though the popular "build your own car" feature has been removed.

EPCOT is one of our favorite Disney theme parks in the United States. Not only is it home to fun festivals throughout the year, but it’s also got some of the best attractions at Walt Disney World, including the high-speed thrill ride, Test Track. The ride, which has been closed for reimagining since June 2024, is finally set to reopen to guests on July 22, 2025.

The new Test Track 3.0, as Disney fans are calling it, features an all-new queue, an improved storyline, and nods to EPCOT’s history, all while sending cars filled with six people speeding around an outdoor track at 65 miles per hour. If you’re planning on getting in line for the new and improved Test Track, keep reading for all you need to know about the exhilarating experience.

The New Test Track Queue And Ride Vehicles

Since Test Track is one of the few major thrill rides at EPCOT, it usually has a very long line from early in the day until the park closes. Because of that, you’ll likely be spending a good chunk of time in the queue, which has been completely refreshed.

The first section of the queue educates guests about the history of cars and moving vehicles, while the second room focuses on the future of how cars and technology can work together.

One thing that may disappoint some guests is the removal of the “build your own virtual car” area of the queue. This area allowed guests to design their own vehicle. Then, when it came time to actually ride Test Track, you could see how your design held up to the road and various driving conditions. While kids of all ages (and adults for that matter) loved this area of the queue, the new Test Track queue is more focused on education and the future of mobility, so it makes sense that this area was taken out.

The ride vehicles also got a slight upgrade with a sleek new paint job and modern headlights. Each car still fits six guests, three to a row.

What Is The Improved Ride Like?

When Test Track opened in 1996, it replaced an attraction called World of Motion, which highlighted the history of transportation. The newly reimagined Test Track has inspired elements from World of Motion. Namely, the idea of innovation and how mobility connects everyone, and infuses them with an upgraded ride that feels fresh and perfect for EPCOT’s World Discovery area of the park. (This portion of the park also features Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Mission: SPACE.)

Once you buckle into the ride vehicle, you’ll zoom off into the “test track.” We love the beginning of the ride, where you can see into the queue from a large picture window, and guests in the queue can see cars whizzing by. Those who rode World of Motion or have old EPCOT tapes or CDs may recognize an instrumental arrangement of the former attraction’s theme song, “It’s Fun to Be Free,” at the start of the ride.

There’s also a unique scene in the ride where you’ll learn how cars use cameras andsensors to see the world around them. According to the Disney Parks Blog, Walt Disney Imagineers used 29,000 points of light to represent this technology.

The big highlight of the attraction is the projection dome room just before you start your journey on the outside racing track. This room features a projection of a futuristic city, and feels like something out of a Marvel movie, but still perfectly fits in EPCOT’s idea of an idyllic tomorrow.

After zooming around the outside track at 65 miles per hour, you’ll pull back into the unload station and get off the ride to see your on-ride photo. These are for sale as individual shots or can be downloaded with the purchase of Disney’s Memory Maker photo package.

Will Test Track Have Previews?

New or updated attractions at Walt Disney World often host previews for certain guests before the official opening, and this is true for Test Track. Certain guests visiting EPCOT will have the chance to strap in for a lap around one of the fastest rides at Walt Disney World before it reopens to the general public.

On July 11, 2025, Club 33 Members and Golden Oak Residents can ride Test Track. Then, on July 12, Disney Vacation Club Members can preview the attraction. Both groups will have a registration system with details to follow via email.

If you’re a Walt Disney World Annual Passholder, you can preview Test Track from July 13 through 16, then again from July 18 through 19. You will need a park reservation for EPCOT on one of those days. Additionally, you will need to enter the virtual queue, which opens at 7:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Details on how to get into the virtual queue can be found here.

Will Test Track Be Offered With Lightning Lanes When It Opens July 22?

When Test Track officially opens on July 22, guests will not have to worry about virtual queues. Instead, the new attraction will offer standby lines or be available to book via Disney’s skip-the-line service called Lightning Lane. If you’ve purchased Lightning Lane Multi-Pass for EPCOT on or after July 22, you can make up to three reservations for select attractions. One selection can be from the group of more popular attractions (Frozen Ever After, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, or Test Track), and two selections from a selection of other rides in the park with Lightning Lane Access.
