The recent cancelation of The Late Show is making other late-night TV hosts nervous. On The Tonight Show, Jimmy Fallon responded to the news that Stephen Colbert’s popular show would be coming to an end in May.

“I am your host,” Fallon said as he opened his monologue on Monday night. “Well, at least for tonight.” He added, “I don’t like it. I don’t like what’s going on one bit. These are crazy times. This morning my dad called me and said he’s officially a Kimmel guy.”

Fallon explained that “everybody is talking about CBS’ decision to end The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” with many people “now threatening to boycott the network.” “CBS could lose millions of viewers, plus tens of hundreds watching on Paramount+,”Fallon quipped.

Fallon noted, “Stephen has done years of incredibly smart and hilarious television, and he’s won 10 Emmys. Trump heard and was like, ‘Big deal, last week I just won a FIFA World Cup trophy.”

The late-night host previously reacted to the news of The Late Show ending in a statement, saying, “I’m just as shocked as everyone. Stephen is one of the sharpest, funniest hosts to ever do it. I really thought I’d ride this out with him for years to come.”

Elsewhere in his monologue, Fallon reflected on Trump celebrating six months in office, Trump’s relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, and the ongoing impact of inflation.

Last Thursday,CBS announced that itwill endits late-night talk show, hosted byStephen Colbertover the past decade, in May 2026, amid financial issues at the network. “We consider Stephen Colbert irreplaceable and will retireThe Late Showfranchise at that time,” the network said in a statement. “We are proud that Stephen called CBS home. He and the broadcast will be remembered in the pantheon of greats that graced late-night television. This is purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night. It is not related in any way to the show’s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount.”
