FBC: Firebreak Passes Unfortunate Steam Milestone

LeightonGames2025-07-092890

Less than one month after its release, Remedy Entertainment's first-person shooter FBC: Firebreak is struggling on Steam, with its recent peak player count in the double digits. Unfortunately, FBC: Firebreak is now being compared by many users to Firewalk Studios' doomed 2024 title Concord, with many wondering if the game will be able to recover on PC.

Available for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5, it was announced that FBC: Firebreak had reached one million players just one week after its launch on June 17, with numbers likely bolstered by the FPS being made available as a day-one Xbox Game Pass title. The title is also cheaper than many popular games in the genre, retailing for $40, which also likely contributed to this positive milestone. Unfortunately, this momentum has come to a halt, at least on PC, with recent Steam numbers painting a bleak picture for Remedy Entertainment's first multiplayer game.

According to SteamDB, FBC: Firebreak's 24-hour peak Steam player count was only 85, a sharp drop from its all-time peak of nearly 2,000 players following its launch. The game currently boasts "Mixed" reviews on the platform, with many players frustrated by its lack of chat features and ongoing connection issues that make matchmaking nearly impossible. Additionally, FBC: Firebreak's lack of tutorials quickly proved to be a major problem, with many users unable to figure out the title's mechanics and how to progress. Thankfully, the developers are aware of these problems, recently stating on social media that "there is still a lot of work" to do to make the game a competitor in the cutthroat FPS market.

In FBC: Firebreak, teams of three are tasked with venturing into the Oldest House from the 2019 action-adventure game Control, where they must destroy human enemies controlled by a hostile alien force known as the Hiss. While the new FPS hasn't seen the level of fanfare some expected, many players are hoping that it could potentially lead to Control 2, as the first game saw several Game of the Year awards and nominations after launch.

Remedy Entertainment is keeping a close eye on player feedback going forward in hopes of addressing the copious issues the player base has with the shooter. Additionally, FBC: Firebreak will get two major content updates in Fall and Winter 2025. The first will add a new job, Outbreak, along with new gameplay systems and enemies, along with fresh rewards and more. The Winter update will also add another job, Blackout, along with plenty of additional content.
