Mercedes-AMG One Hypercar Recalled for Fire Risk Linked to Rear Spoiler Hydraulics

Mercedes-AMG has announced a global recall of its $3-million One hypercar due to a potential fire hazard involving its active rear spoiler system. The issue affects 219 of the 275 production vehicles built between December 2022 and May 2025, with the majority already delivered to customers.

According to the automaker and documents submitted to regulatory agencies, the problem stems from a possible omission of cotter pins in the hydraulic line that actuates the rear spoiler. If the pins are missing, hydraulic fluid can leak from the system. Given the flammability of the fluid, this creates a significant fire risk, particularly in a vehicle capable of producing more than 1,000 horsepower and operating under extreme heat and pressure.

While no fires or injuries have been reported to date, Mercedes-AMG issued the recall proactively after internal quality control inspections flagged the issue during routine post-production analysis.

The One is Mercedes-AMG’s most ambitious production car to date, featuring a turbocharged 1.6-liter V6 engine sourced directly from Formula One and paired with four electric motors. Designed to bring Formula One hybrid technology to the street, the hypercar has been delivered to a very select group of customers around the world.

Of the 219 vehicles affected, 183 are reportedly located in Germany, while the remaining 36 were exported to other markets. Mercedes-AMG did not confirm whether any affected models are located in North America, but owners worldwide are being contacted directly by the brand.

The recommended fix is relatively simple: a 90-minute service visit to an authorized AMG hypercar service center, where technicians will inspect the rear wing’s hydraulic system and install any missing cotter pins.

The recall echoes a similar issue experienced by Ford with its GT supercar in 2018, where a leaking hydraulic valve in the rear wing system also raised fire concerns.

Mercedes-AMG says it remains committed to the safety and satisfaction of its elite customer base and is covering all recall-related service costs.
