Tales of the Shire: A The Lord of the Rings Game developer Weta Workshop has revealed the official PC system requirements for the upcoming life sim. Luckily, Tales of the Shire has modest specs on PC, despite being more demanding than other popular games in the same genre.
Originally announced by Weta Workshop and Private Division in 2023, Tales of the Shire will be released on July 29, 2025. The title was originally set to be out in 2024, but Tales of the Shire was delayed twice. In the upcoming farming sim, gamers will play as a Hobbit in the village of Bywater, a small community in the Shire. Players will be able to decorate their homes, explore the region, harvest crops, fish, and much more.

The Case For Tales of the Shire To Keep Wider Lord of the Rings References to a Minimum
Tales of the Shire benefits from its setting in The Lord of the Rings, but relying too much on it could bring some unwelcome consequences.
PostsNow, the developers of Tales of the Shire have revealed the game’s specs on Steam. To play the game with the “Minimum” requirements, which will guarantee 1080p and 30 FPS at the Very Low preset, players will need CPUs like the Intel Core i5-7600K or AMD Ryzen 3 1200, and GPUs such as NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770, or AMD Radeon R9 270X, or Intel Arc A580. For the “Recommended” specs, which allow for playing on 1080p on 60 FPS using High settings, Weta Workshop expects gamers to use processors such as the Intel Core i5-10600 or AMD Ryzen 5 8400F, and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, or AMD Radeon RX 6750 XT as graphics cards. In both games, at least 16 GB of RAM is required, as well as 3 GB of free space.

While these are arguably not very high requirements, they make Tales of the Shire much more demanding than similar games such as Stardew Valley. Other popular farming sims, such as Fields of Mistria or Coral Island, are much easier to play on less powerful PCs, too.
Alternatively, gamers can play Tales of the Shire on consoles, such as the PS4, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S. Back in May, Weta Workshop unveiled the physical editions of Tales of the Shire, which will be limited to the PS5 and Switch. Gamers will be able to pick between two editions, with both featuring the game itself, a map of Bywater, and pre-order bonuses, but only one will have an exclusive book cover o-sleeve.
Hopefully, Tales of the Shire will be a good pick for Tolkien fans who want a cozy experience. It remains to be seen how it’ll fare against popular titles such as Stardew Valley, though.
