New Evidence for Red Dead Redemption 2 Upgrade Surfaces

AnastasiaGames2025-07-128260

Red Dead Redemption 2 fans have recently uncovered new evidence that the game will get a current-gen upgrade soon. A possible Red Dead Redemption 2 upgrade has been rumored for a while, and it could be an excellent way for Rockstar to help fill the gap until the release of Grand Theft Auto 6.

Released in 2018 for PS4 and Xbox One, Red Dead Redemption 2 is widely regarded as one of the best games Rockstar has ever made. The title received ports for PC and Google Stadia in 2019, but it never gained a proper next-gen upgrade. However, rumors of an update for Red Dead Redemption 2 surfaced earlier this year. While Rockstar has not confirmed anything yet, multiple insiders claimed that the open-world game would be released for Nintendo Switch 2, and could be out in the second half of 2025.

Now, a gamer called Livid-Army-5857 shared further evidence that the current-gen upgrade is coming, as the fan spotted an option for “Online migration” on Rockstar Support’s website for Red Dead Online. Back when Grand Theft Auto 5 was released for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, fans had the option to migrate GTA Online characters to the new consoles, so this indicates that the same could be planned for RDR2. Soon after Livid-Army-5857 posted this evidence, Rockstar removed the option from the website, and it can no longer be seen, but other gamers corroborated that they had also noticed it.

New Feature on Red Dead Online Could Indicate Current-Gen Update Coming Up Soon

Fans have been asking for a Red Dead Redemption 2 current-gen upgrade for a while, and it would be an exciting change for them while they wait for GTA 6. An update could allow the game to run at 60 FPS on consoles, offering improved graphics and performance. Obviously, this evidence should be taken with a grain of salt, as it’s possible that the option for online migration was a mistake, and it’s best to wait for Rockstar’s confirmation.

While Red Dead Redemption 2 has not been at the center of Rockstar’s mind in recent years, the Western game received a major update last week, surprising fans. Called Strange Tales of the West, this major new update for Red Dead Redemption 2 brought new supernatural investigations to Red Dead Online, which were reminiscent of the original Red Dead Redemption’s Undead Nightmare DLC. Hopefully, this could mean that Rockstar is continuing to work on RDR2 and that the current-gen upgrade is real.
