Destiny 2's latest expansion, The Edge of Fate, has barely become accessible to players, but the devs are revealing that certain lines are already being re-recorded. Fans who feel that something seems off about the dialogue in the game may be pleased to know the plan for Destiny 2.

Destiny 2 has just kicked off the start of The Fate Saga, with the game's developers revealing the plans for the title's expansions and updates all the way through late 2026. It's an exciting time for fans of the game, but keen-eared players may have noticed that something seems to be a bit off with some of the voices in the game.

The Destiny 2 team shared some information, announcing that certain characters will have their lines re-recorded and swapped into the game with a future update. In May, Bungie stated that the voice actors for Ikora, Orin, and Chioma were "unavailable." As a result, Bungie hired voice actors to provide temporary lines for these characters. Now, however, the "conflict" keeping the original voice actors from portraying their characters has been resolved, and Bungie is actively working on re-recording the impacted character lines with the original performers. However, Bungie hasn't stated when Destiny 2: Edge of Fate will feature the original voices again, beyond it arriving with a "future update."

What Happened With Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate's Voices?

Although Bungie didn't explain why the original actors were unavailable, the timing of their return seems to indicate that it was tied to the SAG-AFTRA actor strike which recently concluded a few days prior to this announcement. The new Interactive Media Agreement adds protections and changes to compensation for voice actors and performance capture artists. Prior to the agreement, union actors were on strike for nearly a year.

While players are listening to stand-in voices for these select characters, there are also instances of silence. The game has also enabled subtitles for these characters, as the French and Spanish versions of the game are currently using the English voice over audio. Bungie initially revealed the change to voice actors would be happening back in May in the lead-up to the expansion, but for those who missed that message, the shift in character voices was a surprise. However, some may have expected it, as Destiny 2: Heresy was also impacted by the voice actor strike. Players seem to be responding positively to Bungie's re-recording plan overall.
