A new and unannounced Guilty Gear title has reportedly been canceled in recent weeks at series developer Arc System Works. Some new details about the Guilty Gear game's development have surfaced while fans wait for the next Guilty Gear Strive DLC character to be released.

The latest title in the beloved Guilty Gear fighting game series is Guilty Gear Strive, which was released in June 2021. Nearly four years after its release, Guilty Gear Strive is still being supported by Arc System Works with regular updates and DLC content. In the past year, Guilty Gear Strive received multiple DLC characters as part of Season 4, including Venom and Unika. Moreover, Lucy from CD Projekt Red and Studio Trigger's Cyberpunk Edgerunners anime will be the next DLC character. Lucy is planned to be released sometime before the end of summer 2025, and ahead of the character's release, some details about Arc System Works' plans for the Guilty Gear franchise have emerged.

Although details about the new Guilty Gear game are scarce, the source's comments on its now-canceled development might suggest that Arc System Works is restarting plans for whatever comes next for the series. Guilty Gear Strive Season 5 has not been officially confirmed, but leaks have suggested that more DLC characters are on the way. If true, Season 5 could hold fans over for a while as Arc System Works decides on what's next for Guilty Gear.

The June 26 Arc System Works Showcase highlighted that the company wants to expand its catalog beyond fighting games like Guilty Gear, as they're both developing and publishing new games in different genres. For example, Guilty Gear series creator Daisuke Ishiwatari is working on DAMON and BABY, a brand-new action game that aims to help bolster Arc System Works' brand and "establish a pillar outside fighting games." Arc System Works is also working with Disgaea creator and former Nippon Ichi Software president Sohei Niikawa to release Demon's Night Fever, a new "raising speedrun simulation RPG," in 2026.
