Battlefield 6 Has Bad News for Some Console Users

GenesisGames2025-07-287220

Battlefield 6 has bad news for some console users, as the shooter's official reveal trailer seemingly confirms that it will only be available on current-gen consoles, such as the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. While the lack of a PS4 and Xbox One release may upset some, Battlefield 6 won't be held back by ageing hardware, which means it could thrive in certain areas that its predecessors could not.

After many months of playtest leaks and rumors, publisher EA finally revealed Battlefield 6 to the world on July 24 with an epic first trailer that featured plenty of action, gunfights, explosions, and more. With the trailer focusing solely on the game's single-player campaign, multiplayer fans will need to wait until July 31 to see more of Battlefield 6. Details on the game's multiplayer reveal are still unconfirmed, but rumors have circulated that EA will host a three-day event from July 29 to 31, featuring developer interviews and hands-on sessions with content creators for Battlefield 6. While this information remains unverified, fans will be getting another look at the next Battlefield game next week.

Amid all the hype and excitement for Battlefield 6, there is one overwhelming question that, based on recent precedent, cannot be ignored.

Unfortunately, those on the last generation of consoles, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, won't be able to experience the next entry in the Battlefield series. Alongside the official reveal for Battlefield 6, EA allowed players to wishlist the upcoming title on the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. However, when fans navigate to the console store pages for Battlefield 6, only current-gen consoles are mentioned. For example, the Microsoft Store page says users can play with Xbox Series X/S, but makes no mention of Xbox One, seemingly confirming that the highly anticipated title won't be on last-gen consoles.

Battlefield 6 Won't Be On PS4 and Xbox One

With so much hype surrounding Battlefield 6, this is likely going to be massively disappointing for some fans. While the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S have been available for nearly five years now, there are still a large number of gamers playing on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, which is why some series have yet to make the jump from last-gen consoles. For example, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is rumored to be releasing this November, but publisher Activision has already confirmed that it will still be launching on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The decision has sparked controversy among the community, as many believe the ageing hardware is holding the franchise back.

EA's decision to focus solely on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC doesn't seem to have affected the excitement surrounding Battlefield 6. In just one hour, the game's reveal trailer received more likes than Black Ops 7's first trailer, which was released all the way back in June. Battlefield 6 managed to rack up almost 200,000 likes in an hour, while Black Ops 7 has only managed to accumulate 140,000 likes in well over a month. With the two likely going head-to-head later this year, Battlefield 6 looks to be off to a strong start.
