MindsEye Reveals Roadmap for Future Updates

JosueGames2025-07-287160

MindsEye developer Build a Rocket Boy has unveiled a roadmap for future updates that aim to rectify the many complaints surrounding the embattled action-adventure game. Alongside this announcement, Build a Rocket Boy has confirmed an indefinite delay for an upcoming crossover between MindsEye and a renowned stealth franchise.

Launched just last month, MindsEye is the debut project of Build A Rocket Boy, a nascent studio helmed by former Rockstar producer Leslie Benzies. Given Benzies' extensive involvement in the Grand Theft Auto series, MindsEye accrued quite a lot of hype, especially among Rockstar fans. Unfortunately, things fell completely flat for MindsEye at launch, with the game marred by major technical issues, confusing design choices, and a lack of substantial content. The fallout was swift, with reports confirming that over 100 Build a Rocket Boy employees were laid off following MindsEye's disastrous debut.

Following the avalanche of criticism, Benzies purportedly began planning a relaunch of MindsEye in hopes that the game would "bounce back." Build A Rocket Boy now looks to be following up on that idea, as the team revealed in a recent Reddit post that MindsEye will receive two updates in the coming months that aim to introduce "more meaningful changes" than prior ones. The first patch - dubbed Update 4 - will drop in August and bring performance improvements, skippable cutscenes, and instant access to player-created content on PC. September's Update 5 is said to enhance MindsEye's core gameplay mechanics, though specific details remain under wraps at the moment.

These updates come at a cost, though, as Build a Rocket Boy has confirmed that MindsEye's upcoming Hitman crossover mission has been delayed. The crossover, which stars none other than Agent 47, was originally scheduled for release in July, but has now been pushed back indefinitely. Build a Rocket Boy has simply promised that the Hitman crossover content will launch "when the time is right," most likely once the studio has addressed a healthy chunk of MindsEye's issues with the inbound updates.

Many fans are disappointed by this development update overall, questioning why Build a Rocket Boy didn't launch MindsEye in September instead, which would've lent the studio more time to optimize the game and avoided the massive reputational damage and layoffs caused by the premature release. Whatever the reason may be, Build A Rocket Boy clearly looks to be trying to salvage MindsEye, and only time will tell if it's got the juice to pull off a redemption arc akin to Cyberpunk 2077 or No Man's Sky.
