Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel Announces Major Change to Card Crafting

BraxtonGames2025-07-221180

Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel is rolling out a major new change when crafting cards being hit by a banlist update, restricting players from a loophole with the dismantling system. The massively popular online TCG from Konami offers players several ways to acquire cards within the game, both as free rewards and through the game's many packs. Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel features a wide variety of Solo Mode challenges, granting new cards for specific archetypes, while Selection Packs typically feature the newest cards being added to the game. However, Master Duel does feature one major way of limiting a player's card selection.

Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel features a regularly updating banlist as one of its main ways of keeping the game's most dominant meta strategies in check. Konami typically releases a new update to Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel's banlist at the start of every month, hitting key cards to address the most powerful decks. Master Duel's most recent banlist for July saw the powerful "Snake-Eye" strategy take a major hit, with key combo piece "Snake-Eye Oak" being banned. Now, Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel is addressing a particular loophole with the card crafting system.

Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel officially unveiled a major change coming to the game's crafting system late last week. Konami's new changes will look to affect players dismantling cards after the announcement of a new banlist update, stopping players from receiving the full 30 Crafting Points for dismantling newly-generated cards. The changes will notably prioritize cards eligible for the "Dismantle Bonus" when dismantling multiple copies of a card, allowing players to still dismantle their old copies of newly-banned cards. The new changes are set to go into effect on July 25.

Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel Making Change to Dismantling Cards

Cards newly eligible for the Dismantle Bonus generated after the Forbidden/Limited Update notice is released will not be eligible for the Dismantle Bonus. When dismantling cards, if a player has both cards eligible for the Dismantle Bonus, and cards ineligible for the Dismantle Bonus, the cards eligible for the Dismantle Bonus will be dismantled first. Cards obtained from Packs following the Forbidden/Limited List Update notice are not eligible for the Dismantle Bonus.

The newly implemented restriction on dismantling is likely aimed at curbing a particular exploit players have found with the dismantling system. Previously, players could craft as many copies of a newly-banned card as they wanted, while being able to dismantle the cards for their full value instead of the typical 10 Crafting Points. The exploit was particularly useful for players hunting for Glossy or Royal Finish copies of Master Duel cards, allowing players to craft multiple copies without any risk of losing resources.

Konami's new card crafting changes come as Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel's competitive meta is expected to see some major swings throughout the coming months. July's new Selection Pack introduced the "Maliss" archetype to the game, which has been a dominant strategy in the physical TCG since its release late last year. The "Ryzeal" cards are also likely to make their Master Duel debut in the near future, expected to be similarly powerful following its release. Fans of Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel should be on the lookout for a multitude of formidable new decks coming to the game soon.
